Dominic Lokinyomo Lobalu, born on a Sunday, is more than a runner. He is an exceptional runner whose story moves thousands of people. At the age of nine, Dominic lost everything. His parents, his country, his future. With nothing but his name – which means "belonging to the Lord" – he flees from South Sudan to Kenya; from a war-torn land to the land of runners. Here, he becomes a runner without a country, tolerated but unwelcome anywhere. As part of the "Athlete Refugee Team", Dominic travels to Switzerland in 2019, where he seeks asylum after a race in Geneva.
Whether by chance or fate, orphan Dominic Lobalu meets family man Markus Hagmann at the other end of the country. The St. Gallen based athletics coach and secondary school teacher not only recognizes Dominic's talent for running but also helps him navigate his new everyday life. Under Markus Hagmann's guidance, and with caring support from his family and friends, Dominic spread his wings. His rise begins – from a local city race winner to a global Diamond League champion and an Olympic medal contender. From a refugee to a shining example of successful integration. From a runner without parents, country and future to the hope of a seemingly forgotten generation.
